Texas CTE courses and TEA student certifications

The federal legislation that funds career and technical education (CTE), the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act, was most recently reauthorized in 2018 as the Strengthening Career and Technical Education Act for the 21st Century (Perkins V). Its purpose is to develop more fully the academic knowledge and technical and employability skills of secondary and postsecondary students enrolled in CTE programs of study. A chief aim of the legislation is to teach students the skills they need to keep the United States competitive and enhance employment opportunities for special student populations.

Oil & Gas production career and technical education CTE course

PetroEd helps students acquire industry-leading student certifications including the RigPass.

In Oil and Gas Production I, students will identify specific career opportunities, skills, abilities, tools, certification, and safety measures associated with each career. Students will also understand components, systems, equipment, production, and safety regulations associated with oil and gas wells.

The binder provided by the State of Texas does not contain all the lesson plans for this course. But the content can be used with any textbook or instructional materials and requires that the TEKs are followed for any local adaptations. PetroEd offers an online curriculum that can self-paced or as part of a blended-learning program. There is no need to develop standards-compliant textbooks or lesson plans. This course can be taught as a part of any existing CTE program and overseen by any CTE teacher.

What is RigPass? IADC Rig Pass is a standardized safety orientation program for all oil and gas operations, whether onshore or offshore, that is independently audited and accredited.
